Clarice Assad - Raízes - Concerto for Percussion Quartet and Orchestra

This project emerged through a consortium organized by Martelo, with the participation of three major Brazilian orchestras: the Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra, the Minas Gerais Philharmonic, and the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra. Together, we commissioned a Concerto for Percussion Quartet and Orchestra to the Brazilian composer Clarice Assad.

We premiered Raízes in March 2024 with the Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Neil Thomson. The work, which celebrates the blend of popular culture with symphonic music, was an absolute success. In April, we performed the piece again, this time with the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by José Soares. The 2024 Raízes Season concludes in October, with a performance with the Paraná Symphony Orchestra and conductor Ricardo Bologna.
